An integral component of traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) is the use of medicinal herbs. Recently, there has been a paradigm shift in the acceptance of herbal medicine here in the West. A large part of this shift is due to the continued negative press given to synthetically produced pharmaceutical products. People are growing increasingly wary of the effectiveness of these drugs as well as the side effects that accompany them—some of which |
 |
end up being worse than the conditions they are intended to treat. |
As the reluctance to pharmaceutical drugs increases, people are actively branching out and seeking alternative forms of Natural healthcare.
|
Chinese Herbal Medicine has a rich and carefully evidenced history that dates back thousands of years. By most accounts, Herbal Medicine therapy predates Acupuncture and remains the primary form of therapy sought in most Eastern cultures today. Herbal properties such as temperature, flavor, color and direction are all carefully combined to form balanced prescriptions aimed at the specific pattern diagnosed by your practitioner. Consisting |
of substances such as plants, flowers and minerals, Chinese medicinals are the precursors of today’s Western pharmaceuticals, however they rarely elicit side effects and have been proven safe throughout thousands of years of use. |
At Center Point, herbal medicine has always been an integral part of our treatments. The appropriate herbal formula will not only enhance the effects of your Acupuncture treatment, but will also provide continued internal therapy between treatments.
We take our herbal therapies seriously and won’t carry or prescribe any herbal product unless we have first tested it’s efficacy and feel confident in its potency for our patient’s needs.
If you’d like to know more about this incredibly powerful form of natural medicine and how you could benefit from it, please give us a call. Since finding the right herbal formula is a very specific process, we also offer herbal consultations separate from regular acupuncture visits if necessary. If you’re hesitant to take pharmaceutical drugs and are looking for a natural alternative for your healthcare needs, the centuries old practice of Chinese Herbal Medicine might be just the thing for you.

How We Distribute Herbal Medicine
|
|
Center Point is proud to carry the JR Laboratories ® line of concentrated herbal teas. These herbal teas are designed and custom handcrafted in the US by the makers of the very finest concentrated teas in the world. The herbs that are used in these teas are either grown organically here in the US, or grown and harvested under very specific standards in the most fertile soils throughout various regions of China, Mongolia, and the |
 |
Himalayan Mountains. |
Traditionally, concocting a Chinese medicinal tea requires taking home a collection of raw herbs and brewing them on your stove at home—usually a very messy and time-consuming process. One of the beauties of these concentrated teas is that all the cooking has already been done for you! Now, with these amazingly potent and delicious concentrates, all you need to do is to boil water! These teas represent Chinese Herbal Medicine in its truest and most traditional form and we are proud to be one of the few clinics here in the US to carry this uniquely powerful form of herbal therapy.
Granular Capsules:
Granular capsules are an excellent and convenient source for the ingestion of herbal formulas. With this format, single herbs and herbal extracts have been dried and ground into a fine powder. This granular powder is then encapsulated (with concentration ratios sometimes as high as 15:1) into easy-to-swallow capsules. These capsules dissolve especially fast and are extremely easy for the digestive tract to absorb.
We proudly carry the Blue Poppy ® line of herbal formulas in the Center Point pharmacy. Blue Poppy is a Colorado based company with an exceptional reputation for quality standards and is headed by one of the pioneers of Chinese Herbal Medicine here in the U.S., Mr. Bob Flaws. Concentrated Liquid Tinctures: |
|
Like granular capsules, liquid tinctures are also made from concentrated extracts of single herbs and traditional herbal formulas. However, liquid tinctures are alcohol based which helps to enhance both bioavailability and ease of assimilation into the bloodstream. For this reason, and because of their high concentration, tinctures are usually taken in smaller amounts – typically only one to two teaspoons at a time. We prescribe |
 |
tinctures in easy-to-carry 2oz dropper bottles, which we find to be convenient for patients, and help to increase overall patient compliance.
All tinctures in the Center Point pharmacy are either made personally by Jonathan Dodds L.Ac., or ordered through FAR EAST SUMMIT CLASSICS ®
